Democrats get Mitchslapped™ on Iraq War resolution.
Well, I guess we can sigh relief for the moment. The United States Senate rejected on a 50-48 vote to put a time table on pulling out of Iraq.
I must admit I was not too pleased when Mitch McConnell allowed the vote to even take place given how Democrats fillibustered much less important things like judges.
In the end, though, the measure came up twelve votes short of what was needed to pass. Worthy of noting is that Democrats Mark Pryor, Ben Nelson (Nebraska) and Joe Lieberman voted against the bill.
Democrats apparently plan to continue to hammer home resolution after resolution in an effort to force our military to flee from Iraq before the job is done, especially in the House of Representatives.
I should note that one of the positives which came out of the bill would have been attachments which made it necessary to keep the funds flowing to our forces who are in the field as presented by Judd Gregg. Democrats were eager to offer and pass a similar resolution.
In both cases, though, the measure did not offer what our men and women need most from us at home: Undying support for victory and to provide them with every means necessary to deal with our enemies, including adding re-enforcements.
Update for John Combest users (3/21/2007): The term “Mitchslapped™” was originally coined over at RedState. I cannot take credit for inventing its use. You gotta admit the term is not only true, but sounds catchy.
